From rooftop systems for households and businesses to large utility-scale solar farms feeding the national grid, ZARENA advocates, trains and facilitates solar deployment across the country.

Over 80% of Zambian households rely on wood and charcoal for cooking, causing significant indoor air pollution, deforestation and household health impacts. ZARENA is committed to accelerating the transition to clean cooking solutions that improve lives and protect the environment.

Biofuels technology converts organic waste — from agricultural, municipal and domestic sources — into clean cooking gas and electricity, while simultaneously producing organic fertiliser. Zambia's substantial agricultural sector creates vast biofuels potential that remains largely untapped.

Zambia's wind resources, particularly in the higher altitude plateau areas and along escarpments, offer growing potential for wind power generation. ZARENA supports wind resource assessment and the development of both utility-scale and small wind projects.

Zambia sits within the East African Rift System and has significant geothermal potential, particularly in the North and Eastern provinces. Geothermal energy can provide stable, baseload power — a critical complement to variable solar and wind resources.
